About

Abel Andel (b. 1997) is a Dutch cinematographer based in Utrecht. He studied cinematography at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, graduating in 2023, and has been shooting fiction, series, documentaries and commercials for over a decade. His work has screened at the Netherlands Film Festival and at international film festivals.

For commercials he has shot for brands such as Heineken, ABN AMRO and Liga, Chocomel among many others.

His approach starts with light and space. He lights to give the actors room instead of boxing them in, so a scene can play out naturally in front of the camera. He works closely with the director from prep onward. He is equally comfortable composing a precise frame for a commercial and following a scene as it unfolds in a documentary.

Abel owns a Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 with a complete camera and lighting package, ready to shoot a full production. He also works with ARRI, RED and Sony systems, depending on what a project needs.
